Now, under the Distinguished Talent visa, individuals must:
- Prove they are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements
- Still be prominent in their field of expertise
- Provide evidence that they would be an asset to Australia, in their area of expertise
- Have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field
- Have a recognised organisation or individual in Australia endorse them as global talent, in the same field as the applicant
- Candidates must meet a high standard and show an exceptional track
record of professional achievement. This may include senior roles,
patents, professional awards, and international publications and
memberships.
Note that places are also available to students who can demonstrate their exceptional talent and international recognition.
Another requirement is that the applicant must meet the High-income threshold, which is explained below:
Candidates should have the ability to attract a salary at or above
the Fair Work high-income threshold of AUD153,600. Note that this figure
is adjusted annually on 1st July by the Australian immigration
authority.
In assessing this, the following will be considered:
- Current salary shown through payslips or a contract, or
- Future job offers outlining remuneration, or
- Recent PhD or Masters graduates in the target sectors

How to apply for Australia Global Talent Independent Visa for 2020 / 2021
Below is a step by step guide on How to apply.
Step 1. Expression of interest
The applicant is required to submit an expression of interest (EOI) using the Global Talent contact form. If the candidate meets the program parameters, he/she will receive a unique identifier.
The candidate will be contacted if his/her EOI is accepted. However, there will be no updates on EOI processing.
On the other hand, if the candidate’s EOI is unsuccessful, he/she will be notified via email.
Note: Expressions of interest can be submitted without contact from a Global Talent Officer.
Step 2. Apply for a visa
After the candidate has received a unique identifier, he/she will lodge the visa application via ImmiAccount.
Please note, the applicant must choose the correct visa subclass when lodging.
For candidate’s outside Australia at the time of application, they’ll lodge a Subclass 124 Distinguished Talent visa.
For those in Australia at the time of application, they’ll lodge a Subclass 858 Distinguished Talent visa.

Nominators
One other key factor in obtaining a Global Talent Visa is the role of
nominators. As part of the application, the candidate must be nominated
by an eligible individual or organisation with a national reputation in
his/her field. The nominator will endorse the candidate’s achievements
and international standing. However, note that the nominators are not
required to provide the candidate with employment in Australia.
Also note that Global Talent Officers cannot fill in the role of
nominators, and a candidate cannot change his/her nominator once a
Distinguished Talent visa application has been lodged.
