If a case arises and a student’s program would take longer than expected or they change their program to one of longer duration or a student is transferring Institutions, the student would need to apply for a study permit extension.
It is necessary to note that the study permit extension must be applied for 3-4 months before it expires else you would be required to leave Canada and it must be done from within Canada.

HOW TO APPLY FOR STUDY PERMIT EXTENSION
- Submit your application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada(IRCC). This can be done electronically.
- Ensure you have an electronic copy of all your documents such as a current passport, Letter of explanation, medical exam, admission letter, family Information form, proof of means of financial support, etc.
- Read the Instruction guide as it contains the necessary information to guide you.
- Fill out the application form online and submit all required documents.
- Pay necessary fees such as biometrics fees.
- If your Study permit extension request has been granted, Your new study permit will be mailed to your mailing address.
